Funding and Finance

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium funding was launched by the Government in April 2011 to raise the attainment of pupils who may be vulnerable to underachievement and close the gap between them and their peers. The funding is now allocated to children who are looked after by the local authority, those who have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the last six years, and those whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.

The money is allocated to initiatives to ensure pupils reach their full academic and social potential.

As a school, we decide how the Pupil Premium is allocated and are accountable for using the funds. We are responsible for reporting on the progress of children receiving Pupil Premium and demonstrating how we are using the grant to have a positive impact.

Children may be eligible for free school meals and are eligible for Pupil Premium if their parents receive any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get

Who is eligible for Pupil Premium?

Free School Meals

It is extremely important that all parents/carers of children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) do register (even if you then choose to not take the meals) as this grant enables us to provide extra resources for children. If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals, we would urge you to complete an application form via Kent County Council.
