Welcome to Butterflies Class

We are delighted to welcome our youngest learners at the very beginning of their school journey. Our aim is to provide a happy, warm, nurturing and caring environment where every child feels safe, valued and excited to come to school each day. We believe that a child’s first experience of school should be exciting and filled with joy, laying strong foundations for a lifelong love of learning.

In Butterfly Class, we support our learners to grow in confidence and independence, encouraging them to explore, discover and enjoy their learning through play and meaningful experiences. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, where learning is carefully planned through a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities, enabling children to learn through both guided teaching and their own interests.

We provide a rich language environment where communication and interaction are at the heart of everything we do. Through thoughtful questioning and careful observation, our teaching team ensures that each learner is supported, challenged and inspired to make progress and develop a genuine love of learning.

A key focus in Reception is developing strong foundations in early reading, writing and mathematics. These are taught in fun, practical and engaging ways that capture children’s interests and build confidence. We also use ‘funky fingers’ activities to develop fine motor skills, helping to strengthen the muscles needed for writing.

We recognise that parents and carers play a vital role in their child’s learning journey. We value this partnership greatly and offer ‘open door’ phonics sessions, giving parents the opportunity to come into school and learn alongside their child. These sessions are a wonderful way to share learning experiences and support progress at home.

We also use the online platform Seesaw to communicate with families and to celebrate and record ‘WOW’ moments of learning, helping you stay connected to your child’s experiences in school.

Timetable

Our timetable can be downloaded below. Here, parents and pupils have the opportunity to view the class schedule to see the day-to-day routine including the range of curricula that is covered. We have found that children with SEND have responded well to visually seeing the structure of the day ahead.

Curriculum

Our learning this year will be based on the topics below and will change accordingly each term. Parents will receive a topic web and home learning grid at the start of each term informing them about what the children will be learning. This will also be available below to download.
